Digimon Adventure was the most popular show of the Digimon series. It was popular enough to get a remake, something that even Yu-Gi-Oh: Duel Monsters hasn't been able to achieve as of yet. Part of this was due to the fact that Digimon Adventure was first and fans always prefer the original, but that doesn't explain all of its enduring popularity.

The series also had some of the most memorable protagonists of the franchise combined with a straight-forward yet high-concept story about a collection of young kids trying to escape an alternate world. Along the way, they battled some incredibly powerful Digimon, most of which were even more powerful than their own.

10 MetalSeadramon Defeated All Eight Of The DigiDestined's Digimon At The Same Time

MetalSeadramon breathing fire

This is one of the Dark Masters the Digidestined had to deal with early on. The character was the ruler over the Net Ocean and commanded an entire army. As a member of the Dark Masters, he was powerful enough that he was able to defeat all eight of the Digidestined’s Digimon while they were in Champion form.

Despite them having experienced countless battles at that point. It took WarGreymon to put MetalSeadramon down, but that was only after several episodes and them coming up with a specific plan to defeat him.

9 MetalEtemon Took Two Ultimate Digimon To Be Defeated

Metal Etemon Flexing For The Adoring Audience

Etemon was one of the biggest challenges for the Digidestined, and one of the reasons they had to look for their tags and crests to begin with. His power was enough to cause Greymon to evolve into MetalGreymon, after which he was defeated.

However, while defeated he absorbed some of the energy of the Dark Network to come back stronger than ever, although he was considerably more comedic this time around. He became an annoyance to the team once again, and it was only through Zudomon and SaberLeomon that MetalEtemon was taken down once and for all.

8 Myotismon Required The DigiDestined To Reach Their Mega Form

Myotismon Grimacing

Myotismon was one of the series’ biggest threats, and in fact, was a threat that hung around longer than any of the others. He was an undead Digimon, and kept countless Digimon under him.

Though he had a weakness to sunlight, he’s also able to drench a rather wide area around him in fog to maintain his power. Myotismon was only defeated by the power of Angewomon’s arrows, and even then he Digivolved into VenomMyotismon and it was only with the power of the two Mega Digimon that they were able to take him out.

7 Angewomon Used Her Powers To Take Out Myotismon

Kari got one of the most powerful Digimon in Gatomon, which already starts out at Champion-level strength. Gatomon’s Ultimate Form, Angewomon relies on the power of her Celestial Arrow to take out their opponents. She also had the Heaven’s Charm attack, which hit enemies with pure holy light energy, an attack that specifically worked the most on enemies that were based in darkness.

She used her powers against Myotismon, and her first evolution was able to take him down, and also helped to take out some of the Dark Masters later on as well even though she never evolved into a Mega form.

6 Puppetmon Was A Main Part Of The Dark Masters

Puppetmon In Digimon Adventure

Puppetmon doesn’t seem like he’d be all that dangerous, but he was still a member of the Dark Masters. He approached things more like a spoiled child who happened to have a hammer that shot out gunpowder.

And he can literally use his powers to control people’s movements, often trying to manipulate them as well. It took MetalGarurumon’s Metal Wolf Claw to take him out, but before that, he was the ruler of the forest.

5 MetalGarurumon Was Powerful Enough To Take Down MetalGarurumon

MetalGarurumon was the Mega form of Gabumon, achieved after Matt was hit with an arrow from one of the Angel Digimon. This power allowed him to help erase VenomMyotismon, saving the real world once and for all. Though the Dark Masters established themselves to be much stronger than most of the DigiDestined, MetalGarurumon was a clear exception.

When he ran into Puppetmon, he destroyed him with a single attack. Alongside WarGreymon, MetalGarurumon is basically the most powerful Digimon that the DigiDestined has to offer.

4 WarGreymon Has Defeated The Most Dark Masters Members, Including MetalSeaDramon and Machinedramon

Greymon’s Mega form, and one of the strongest Partner Digimon. WarGreymon put in the most work among the original DigiDestined Digimon aside MetalGarurumon. His gauntlets were Dramon destroyers which meant he was able to take out MetalSeaDramon. Then later he defeated Machinedramon as well. His limit was trying to fight Piedmon, where he was turned into a keychain and needed the help of MetalGarurumon and MagnaAngemon to stand a chance.

His best attack is Terra Force, which takes all the energy around him and makes a giant fireball to toss at people.  Greymon's power is unsurprisingly considering he's Tai's partner Digimon and Tai's the protagonist.

3 MagnaAngemon Was Responsible For Restoring The DigiDestined To Normal After Piedmon Defeated Them

MagnaAngemon Hitting A Pose

The Ultimate form of Angemon. MagnaAngemon was unleashed in a battle against the Dark Masters. Piedmon had proven strong enough to defeat all of the other DigiDestined, and it was only MagnaAngemon who had the power to turn them back to normal.

MagnaAngemon fights on the level of a Mega Digimon despite being an ultimate, and he’s the main reason they were able to defeat Piedmon at all. His Gate of Destiny attack is a portal that can fire energy or pull Digimon in, while his Magna Antidote can heal everyone.

2 Piedmon Was The Most Powerful Member Of The Dark Masters And Defeated All The DigiDestined

Piedmon from Digimon

Piedmon was the most powerful member of the Dark Masters. Literally created by Apocalymon, he was able to manipulate all the events around him to control the Digital World after the DigiDestined left. He turned out to have been behind quite a few different events over the course of the series, and when he fought WarGreymon solo he nearly defeated him, proving that he was a stronger Mega Digimon than WarGreymon.

He was also powerful enough to defeat the other DigiDestined and transform them into key chains. However, after both MetalGarurumon and WarGreymon gained experience fighting other Mega Digimon, he was finally defeated—but only with both Mega Digimon and MagnaAngemon.

1 Apocalymon Was Powerful Enough To Erase All The DigiDestined's Digimon

Apocalymon from Digimon Adventure.

The last boss of Digimon Adventure season one. The being spent his life in a world of darkness forced to watch from afar as the other worlds developed and enjoyed happiness. Apocalymon had the power to reduce the Digimon to their smallest forms, destroying their tags and crests, making it impossible to fight back against him.

In the end, it took all of the DigiDestined in their most powerful forms to defeat him, and even then he almost took all of creation with him.
