When people think of superhero love interests, they often think of the helpless types that need to be saved. Some of this is rooted in the unfortunate nature of superheroes being a male-dominated world for so long, but it's not only the male superheroes. Wonder Woman frequently had to save her love interest Steve Trevor, since he wasn't nearly as powerful as Wonder Woman or her rogues gallery.
However, the days of damsels (or even dudes) in distress are long gone. These days it's unlikely a superhero gets partnered up with someone without powers, or someone who isn't already in the game. Now there's no shortage of DC characters who have love interests that are as powerful or even stronger than they are.
10 Oliver Queen Is A Master Archer And A Talented Martial Artist
Black Canary’s boyfriend, Oliver Queen is one of the premiere heroes of the Justice League. Though he isn’t nearly as talented a fighter as Dinah, Green Arrow is still a skilled martial artist thanks to being trained by the same person who taught Deathstroke. He’s also one of the best marksmen in the world, meaning he's just as good with guns as he is with a bow and arrow even if that doesn't fit his motif. Even as an archer, Green Arrow's been able to fire off 29 arrows in a single minute, something which seems near superhuman.
9 Poison Ivy Has Control Over All Plants Through Her Connection To The Green
Harley Quinn’s best girl Poison Ivy wasn't one of Batman’s deadliest villains for nothing. Thanks to her connection to the Green, she can make plants grow as fast as she wants, and can even make them move other objects. Ivy's also able to kill anyone with a touch, something she can fortunately has complete control over, for Harley’s sake. Poison Ivy's true power is rarely used and underrated as well, as she's once managed to use plants to create mind-controlling pheromones that put the entire planet under her control.
8 Cheetah's Magic Power Makes Her Fast And Powerful Enough To Harm Wonder Woman
Etta Candy and Barbara Minerva began dating in the post-Flashpoint world. The two of them played off each other well... until Minerva found herself forcefully transformed into the Cheetah. As the Cheetah, she has incredible enough speed that she was able to keep pace with Flash and she’s strong enough that she can fight Wonder Woman.
Cheetah's also got claws that can slice through anything, even Kryptonians. At one point, she had unlocked the power of the Void Wind, which made her deadly even to those who claim to be immortal.
7 Jade's Connection To The Starheart Means She Has The Same Green Lantern Powers As Her Father
Kyle Rayner’s girlfriend in the 90’s and early 2000’s, Jennie-Lynn Hayden has been in the hero game longer than Kyle. She was originally a member of the Justice Society of America off-shoot Infinity Inc, but she retired when the team disbanded. Eventually, she took up a career as a photographer before she started sharing an apartment with Kyle, which eventually led to the two dating.
Still, she maintained a connection to the Starheart, which meant she could create energy constructs in the same manner as a Green Lantern. The connection also grants her flight and the ability to create shields to defend herself.
6 As Star Sapphire, Carol Is Able To Match Any Green Lantern
Carol Ferris was dealt a bad hand in the Silver Age, as the comics made her into someone who was so obsessed with Hal Jordan that she was occasionally one of his annoying super-villain rogues. Since the character came back in the late 2000’s, DC has rectified this by changing how the Star Sapphire powers work and allowing her to control the crystal that had been controlling her. With this power, she’s effectively got all the same abilities as Hal Jordan, but her abilities run on love. Without her being passionately in love, her ring might not be as powerful.
5 Superboy Is Able To Emulate Most Of Superman's Powers
As Wonder Girl’s boyfriend, Superboy was the powerhouse of the new era of Teen Titans for several years. As the clone of Superman, he’s got many of the same abilities as Superman so long as he’s under a yellow sun. He’s got super-strength and speed, and has even manifested heat vision. But many of these powers originally came from his tactile telekinesis, and that’s a power he has that Superman doesn’t. Superboy’s Tactile Telekinesis not only simulates other powers, but also allows him to push or toss things with only his mind.
4 Starfire Is One Of The Strongest Members Of The Teen Titans
Starfire and Dick Grayson’s relationship was one of the reasons the New Teen Titans series was a success throughout the '80s. Kori is one of DC’s most powerful women, boasting a wide variety of skills thanks to the experiments the slavers performed on her.
Starfire's not only got the ability to fly, she can do so through the vacuum of space. Her super-strength has never really been pushed to its limit, and she has access to powerful “Starbolts” that can burn through anything she tosses them at, including metal.
3 Mera Has Most Of Aquaman's Powers And She Can Control The Oceans
Mera is arguably more powerful than Aquaman, she just doesn’t have neat trident he has for being King of Atlantis. She’s one of the strongest women on the planet, able to lift somewhere over 70 tons. There’s very few things Aquaman can do that she can’t, and while Aquaman has things like his trident, Mera has something he doesn’t. As a Xebellian, she can manipulate water however she wishes, meaning she’s never far from water. The Justice League recognized her power, which is why she became a member of the team during the Rebirth era.
2 Artemis Has Strength And Training On The Level Of Wonder Woman
Artemis' relationship with Red Hood is strange, and they've never quite put a label on what they are. Still, she’s a powerhouse and the most capable all-around member of the Outlaws. She’s got super-strength on par with Wonder Woman’s, and training from the Bana-Mighdall, a splinter group of the Amazons. Artemis also has access to a wide array of weapons that even rivals Wonder Woman, from her massive battle axe to her bow of Ra which can destroy the stars with their arrows. Though her strength might not match Bizarro’s, she’s still got the edge on him in terms of training and versatility.
1 Djinn Has Limitless Power As Long As Her Power Is In The Hands Of Someone Else
One of the recent Teen Titans teams had a young woman on the team known as Djinn, who wound up serving as a love interest for the young Damian Wayne very briefly. Djinn is an immortal magical being with incredible abilities. She can teleport, she can force people to see what she wants them to see, and she can even alter reality itself. However, her powers are only this great when someone else is commanding her to do things. When that happens, Djinn effectively has no limits, but when she’s in command of her own powers, she can only use her powers to fly or cast illusions.
