The Avengers came together in the comics when Loki tried to trick his step brother Thor into battling the monstrous Hulk. Rick Jones’ message for help from the Fantastic Four is diverted to Iron Man, Ant-Man and the Wasp. The heroes team up, defeat Loki and decide to form a team that the Wasp named “The Avengers”.

The Avengers became Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. And while their roster has always held major names like Captains America and Marvel, Spider-Man and Wolverine, there were also those heroes that people often forget but whose powers were mind-boggling strong.

10 Spectrum (Monica Rambeau)

Known today as the daughter from the Captain Marvel film, Monica Rambeau was originally based on actress Pam Grier. Rambeau also held the name Captain Marvel long before Carol Danvers, being the second after Mar-vell himself. After several name changes, she became Spectrum. Rambeau has lead several teams including the Ultimates, Avengers and Nextwave .

Spectrum has a vast array of electromagnetic powers. In her energy form, she can become any type of light from visible to ultra violet, any ray including gamma, cosmic and x-rays and any wave form from microwaves, radio wave to neutrinos. She can become invisible, intangible, move at light speeds and fly through space unaided. Rambeau can create powerful force beams, can create holographic duplicates of herself and is effectively immortal.

9 Firebird

A member of The Rangers and the West Coast and Secret Avengers, the devoutly religious Bonita Juarez believes that her meteorite based powers are a gift from God. After a spiritual awakening, she changed her name to La Espirita but returned to Firebird later in her career.

Juarez has the ability of pyrokinesis, which manifests itself in a giant fiery bird around her. She can project the flames behind her to fly at tremendous speeds or from her hands to melt steel. Juarez has limited precognition and is immune to most poisons, radiations and demonic possession. She may be immortal having survived two encounters that only someone like Thor could survive.

8 Forgotten One

The Forgotten One is one of the Eternals and has been mistaken for many mythical heroes over the millennia. He fought against the cosmic Celestials and beside near immortal heroes Thor and Hercules. Later, the Forgotten One disappeared until he joined the Avengers. Taking the name Gilgamesh, he battled several foes with the Avengers and was killed by Immortus but later returned to life.

The Forgotten One has a number of superhuman powers that are common to the Eternals but is the physically strongest of all Eternals other than Thanos. He is nearly invulnerable, can self heal and has control of nearly every molecule of his body. He can also fly and shoot blasts from his eyes and hands. The Forgotten One is one of the best melee fighters alive.

7 Sersi

Sersi of the Eternals in Marvel Comics

Sersi is a member of the Eternals and was the inspiration for Circe in Homer’s “The Odyssey”. Sersi has always lived among mortals. In modern times, Sersi joined the Avengers at Captain America’s request. She was a powerful addition but she was driven to near madness by Procter and fled this dimension until recently.

While possessing super strength, speed, durability and flight like all Eternals, Sersi can rearrange matter on the molecular and atomic level, including living beings. She can manipulate the minds of any race except Deviants. Sersi can cast illusions and can levitate up to seven people. Her mental powers also give her complete control over her body, doesn’t age and is virtually immortal.

6 Sandman

Flint Marko is a long time Spider-Man foe who was encouraged by the Thing to go straight. He joined Silver Sable’s Wolf Pack and, after a presidential pardon, became a probational member of the Avengers. He did well against the Mole Man and an invasion of Doombots. A misunderstanding over procedure caused Marko to think he was being fired, so he quit.

Marko’s entire body is made up of sand and rock particulates. He can shape and harden it into various forms or into a flowing mass. Marko can lift around 85 tons. No longer human, he does not need to eat, sleep or breathe. Marko is effectively immortal but is extremely vulnerable to water.

5 Ares

Ares is the Greek-Roman God of War, and was involved directly in conflicts throughout human history. Tired of warmongering, Ares took a human identity and fathered a child. He took a job as a construction worker until Iron Man told Ares he had to register as a superhuman or would be deported back to Olympus. Ares was ripped in half by the Sentry but was returned to life by the Collector.

Ares is a god and has several powers greater than most Olympic Gods. Ares’ super strength allows him to lift around 70 tons. His speed, durability, agility and reflexes are all superhuman. Ares has limitless stamina and the ability to manipulate wars and conflicts in any forms. Ares is a true immortal and is a master of every form of warfare.

4 Agent Venom

Agent Venom is Flash Thompson, and friend of Peter Parker. Flash lost both his legs in the Iraq War and was later given the symbiote to become a government operative. Flash couldn’t remain Venom for more than 48 hours or the symbiote exerts control. Agent Venom was placed on Hawkeye’s Secret Avengers and the Avengers envoy to the Guardians of the Galaxy. The savage aspects of the symbiote were healed on its home planet. Flash was eventualy killed by Norman Osborn’s Red Goblin.

Agent Venom had all the powers of Venom and Spider-Man. These include super-strength, speed, reflexes, durability, spider-sense, webbing creation, shape-shifting and accelerated healing factor. Due to his military training, Flash was an exceptional combatant, marksman and sharpshooter.

3 Sunspot

Mutant superhero Roberto da Costa purchased the criminal science organization Advanced Idea Mechanics (A.I.M.). He restructured it, invited Cannonball and other heroes to create a new organization called Avengers Idea Mechanics. After trouble with SHIELD, he turned control of A.I..M.’s science division over to the government but remained the leader of the U.S. Avengers as Citizen V. da Costa died in the War of the Realms aiding the X-Men.

Sunspot absorbs solar energy and re-channels it into flight, enhanced durability, thermokinetic and dark solar plasma blasts and the ability to raise or lower local temperature. Sunspot also has super strength. As an adult, he is normally able to lift 50 tons but when he was infected with the Terrigen Mist derived M-Pox, da Costa believed he was the strongest mutant on Earth.

2 Victor Mancha

Victor Mancha is the “son” of the villainous Ultron. Victor is a cyborg created from the DNA of drug mule Marianella Mancha and the advanced cybernetics of Ultron. After learning his origins and the death of his mother, Victor joined the Runaways. Victor was recruited to join a special team of Avengers, led by his “grandfather”, Dr. Henry Pym. Victor was killed by the Vision’s wife Virginia when he destroyed their son Vin but Victor has since come back to life.

Victor Mancha’s nanite cybernetics are so advanced that they are indistinguishable from his human parts and can automatically self repair. Victor can interface with nearly any computer or machine directly or wirelessly. Victor has a photographic memory, advanced intelligence and is fluent in multiple languages.

1 Miss America

America Chavez was raised by her mothers in a dimension outside time and space. Her mothers sacrificed themselves to move her home Utopia into the Multiverse and America used her powers at age six to leave home and explore other dimensions. After working with many heroes in several realities and the A-Force on Battleworld, America emerged as part of The Ultimates and the teams of heroes that defeated the Celestial Destructor and Thanos. America opposed Carol Danvers' actions in the second Civil War and joined Kate Bishop’s West Coast Avengers.

America is an incredibly powerful woman with vast super-strength, speed, invulnerability and flight. America can traverse the Multiverse through star shaped portals and can move through other dimensions and time. America has a hyper-cosmic awareness of how to navigate the vast Multiverse.
