Like Street Fighter's gameplay, its lore is also some of the best in the genre. At its core, the series is about heroes worldwide trying to defeat the tyrannical M. Bison and his criminal organization, Shadaloo. However, with each installment and each fight, more characters are introduced that have their own interesting and sometimes tragic origins. One example of this is the assassin Vega, whose obsession with beauty turned him into a talented but twisted fighter.

Vega was born in Spain to a noble family before they were eventually forced to abandon their status. Now living a normal life, Vega studied bullfighting, a traditional style he would later meld with Ninjutsu after visiting Japan, creating his own martial arts style. The combination would prove deadly as he took his newfound skills to underground fighting rings.

Though he participated in countless battles, Vega was very critical of his looks, as he was born with incredibly handsome features. This vanity would eventually lay the foundation for his deranged psyche following the murder of Vega's mother at the hands of his stepfather. Upon finding her body, Vega immediately killed his stepfather. While his thirst for revenge was quenched, the act awakened an entirely different hunger.

Vega considered his stepfather to be ugly and upon killing him, Vega's mind was fractured. He believed that those he felt were ugly were representative of evil and needed to be eradicated. However, on the other side of that coin, the beautiful were innocents who needed to be protected. Vega took this logic into the streets, leading a double life as a murderer.

His morbid acts eventually caught the eye of M. Bison, who recruited him to be one of the top men in his criminal organization, Shadaloo. With the organization's dealings, enemies were always being made and needed to be eliminated just as quickly. As the head of the assassination division, this was where Vega excelled. In this position, he earned a deadly reputation that was only brought into question once when he let Cammy and Bison's other brainwashed Dolls escape due to their beauty.

The assassin's obsession with beauty and his hatred of those he considered ugly has pushed him to continue to improve his unique fighting style and assassination arts. But as he physically improved, Vega's mind deteriorated due to his twisted vision of what is considered beautiful. Nevertheless, it's clear that for Vega, his perception of the world keeps him strong even if it means sacrificing his grip on reality.
