As Street Fighter V winds down, the Capcom fighter is finally drawing to a close after several seasons of updates. The final DLC entry in the game brings in some iconic classic fighters, one of whom hails from the series' late '90s Street Fighter III trilogy of releases. Oro is a mysterious, odd and wizened fighter who first appeared in Street Fighter III, but this DLC release marks the first time he's been playable since.

Oro brings back many of his classic moves, although his actual gameplay still involves a challenging, unorthodox play style that's sure to have a steep learning curve for all but the sharpest players. Before he comes to Street Fighter V, here's what old fans and newer gamers should know about Oro's story, gameplay style and release date.

Who Is Oro?

Oro debuted in the first game in the Street Fighter III series, New Generation. He was an old hermit who had lived for over 100 years after learning the secrets of immortality, with his devotion to fighting making him extremely powerful. Oro restrained his left arm to keep his opponents from being brutally beaten if said power got out of control, further cloaking his strength.

His story had him searching the land for an apprentice who might learn his style and replace him one day, with Ryu in particular being of interest to Oro. Also on the old master's mind was the combined threat of both the demonic Akuma and the Illuminati organization led by Gill. He already showed up in Street Fighter V in cutscenes, talking to Dhalsim before departing again to find powerful fighters.

Oro's strange moveset and appearance drew mixed responses among Street Fighter fans. Many found him and other characters in the third game as too bizarre compared to previous World Warriors. Nevertheless, Oro became very popular, with many fans expressing anticipation over his long-awaited return to the franchise.

Oro's Moves & Systems

Oro's moveset in Street Fighter V resembles his Street Fighter III incarnation fairly well, which is sure to make him a challenging yet rewarding character to play as. One attack is the Yonibi projectile, which resembles his Yagyodama attack from Street Fighter III. This slow attack takes just as long to charge as it does to move across the screen, making it somewhat less versatile than moves like the Hadoken.

The Minomushi sends Oro jumping forward, from which he can then unleash a volley of punch or kick combos. The Manrikitan V-Trigger allows Oro to violently pick up and throw his opponents. His second V-Trigger, Tengu Stone, is a returning move from the previous games, and it allows Oro to summon massive objects from overheard that then collide with his opponent. These objects have different additional effects, too, such as a doll of Blanka electrifying an enemy.

When Does Oro Release?

Fans have already had a long wait. The last Street Fighter V update was in the spring when Rose was released. Thankfully for fans of the series itching to take control of the one-armed wonder once more, the wait won't be too excruciating.

Oro, as well as Akira from Rival Schools, will be available to purchase and download in Street Fighter V on the PlayStation 4 or Windows on August 16th. This is only a few days away, so fans should prepare for a bout with the sage that's far stronger than he looks.
