Capcom finally announced Street Fighter 6 with a stylish teaser trailer hinting at the game's improved graphics and art style.
Following the conclusion of a countdown website that has been slowly ticking down for days, the video game publisher dropped a brief video confirming the project's existence. While the trailer itself doesn't reveal anything in terms of gameplay, fans are hoping that the impressively detailed character models are a demonstration of what the game will look like when it eventually launches. In the footage, what appears to be an older, more hardened Ryu stares down Luke, the final character to be added to Street Fighter 5's massive roster.

The announcement of Street Fighter 6 coincides with the franchise's 35th anniversary, an event that was also celebrated through the unveiling of the Capcom Fighting Collection. This anthology comprises 10 of Capcom's most beloved competitive fighting games including Darkstalkers, Night Warriors, Cyberbots, Hyper Street Fighter II and Red Earth amongst several other iconic titles. This bundle launches on June 24 and will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
Street Fighter is one of Capcom's oldest and most revered franchises. Starting life out in 1987, the series largely set the standard for 2D fighting games, with many of its mechanics and principles still used by developers to this day. The saga of Ryu and his journey to becoming the ultimate warrior proved so successful that the game's characters have featured in several spinoffs, taking the shape of comic books, an animated TV show, an anime and even a live-action film which earned itself a cult following.
The last entry in the long-running series, Street Fighter V, was released in 2016 and was met by mixed reviews from fans and critics. Many gamers were confused by the titles' PlayStation 4 and PC exclusivity, while others took issue with its limited roster of characters and spotty network which rendered online play largely inaccessible. Following several major updates, most notably the enhanced Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition version, the game eventually made a name for itself in the competitive scene.
As for Street Fighter 6, Capcom has yet to formally disclose a release window or platforms for the highly-anticipated sequel, but it will likely be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Fans can look forward to learning more information this summer.
