Stray, the long-awaited cyberpunk cat adventure game for PlayStation, has finally received a release date.

Amidst a flurry of new reveals of significant titles, such as the Resident Evil 4 remake announcement and a new trailer for Final Fantasy XVI, PlayStation released a brand new trailer for Stray. "Lost, alone, and separated from family, a stray cat must untangle an ancient mystery to escape a long-forgotten cybercity and find the way home," revealed the trailer description. Along with brand new footage, which showcased some of the stunning cyberpunk imagery players can expect from the game, PlayStation revealed Stray will release on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on July 19.

Stray, a game that puts players in the perspective of a backpack-adorned cat wandering desolated streets and solving puzzles, looks to be on track to make its previously estimated launch date. July 19 matches up with the release date leaked by PlayStation Game Size last week after they delved into the company's database. They noted this could only be a placeholder, but it's confirmed now to have been a legitimate leak.

As the name suggests, Stray puts players in the claws of a cat as it explores the streets of a forgotten cyberpunk city. While exploring the metropolis, players must solve feline-sized puzzles and battle with rat-like creatures that litter the place while trying to find their way back home. There is an element of mystery in the description, as the cat seems only vaguely to remember where it belongs. Along the way, the cat receives help from its trusty robotic companion, B-12, who takes the shape of a cute backpack the cat wears when it isn't in use. Players must also complete quests for the cybernetic denizens of the metropolis, which reward the cat with valuable items or by opening paths to help the cat find its way home.

Stray was delayed last year to an early 2022 release. The developers decided to take additional time on the title to give themselves more months to perfect it and provide the team with time off for their well-being in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the game missed its early 2022 release window, there has been no word on development or a new launch window until now.

Developed by BlueTwelve Studio and published by Annapurna Interactive, Stray will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC on July 19, 2022.
