There are many characters in anime that have their unique quirks, habits, and hobbies. However, some can be bizarre to viewers, both in heartwarming and creepy ways. This could be thanks to a variety of factors including their habits, personalities, occupations, and the larger situations surrounding them. Strangeness can exist in many ways. Sometimes it can be endearing and sometimes it can be unnerving. But either way, these strange characters wormed their way into the hearts of the fandom (and some seriously creeped them out in the process.)

From L eating nothing but sweets and sitting in a specific position to Himari being possessed by a penguin-shaped hat, these characters were bizarre but entertaining to their viewers.

L from Death Note came off as one of its strangest characters. Though he was well-known for trying to uncover Kira's true identity, he was also extremely well-known for his many odd habits. Two of his most notable features included him always sitting in a crouched position and eating nothing but sweets. Despite his sweet tooth, L is quite athletic, as shown when he and Light Yagami got into a fistfight while handcuffed to each other.

As for his constant crouching, L argued that it is necessary or else his deductive reasoning would worsen if he sat normally. No matter his reasons for both habits, however, L did accomplish a lot as a key figure in the Kira investigation save for, ironically, uncovering Kira's identity.

9 Clear Was A Robot Who Constantly Wore Masks And Could Sing (DRAMAtical Murder)

Clear from the visual novel and anime adaptation of DRAMAtical Murder was a singing robot created to serve the series' main antagonist, Toue. Clear became defective and was supposed to be discarded, but the person in charge of discarding him decided to fix him up and adopt him as his son instead, going as far as leaving Toue's organization and moving elsewhere with Clear.

He also gave Clear masks to wear to cover his face while out in public, for his safety. In addition to his background as a robot in disguise, Clear was also very new to functioning as a normal human being and had to learn how to use things like doors properly.

Elf Yamada was a rival light novelist to Masamune from Eromanga Sensei. Though Elf was a popular light novelist, being rich enough to drop out of school and buy an old mansion for herself, she also had some strange habits and hobbies surrounding her writing.

One of her strange writing habits was playing piano in the nude to gain inspiration for her works-in-progress. Unfortunately for Elf, Masamune happened to see her through the window during one of these occasions.

Hinako from Hinako Note tended to freeze up like a scarecrow anytime she was overwhelmed on a social basis. This included times when she found herself surrounded by strangers or people she did not know well. Though it was helpful for her to find work as a human scarecrow back where she came from ad made her popular with animals, it made it difficult for Hinako to get to know anyone well.

To improve her social skills, she decided to move to the city and join the school's theater club. She also formed a theater troupe with her friends.

6 Ryou Kuroyanagi Has Wild Reactions To Eating Bread (Yakitate!! Japan)

Ryou Kuroyanagi from Yakitate!! Japan was one of the executive members of the bakery Pantasia. He was the main examiner to test potential employees for Pantasia, and also served as the main judge in the Pantasia Newcomers Tournament. It was also revealed later on that he and Shigeru Kanmuri were classmates at Harvard University.

However, one of the strangest things about Kuroyanagi was his ability to have wild reactions to eating bread. From spinning around while hanging from the ceiling to temporarily dying, going to heaven, and coming back to life, all of his imaginative and strange reactions made him memorable to viewers.

Koro Sensei was one of the strangest characters in Assassination Classroom. Not only was he an alien bent on destroying the world at the end of the school year, but he also was extremely hard to kill thanks to his invulnerability to many things including poisons and bullets. Many assassination attempts failed to kill Koro Sensei until the series finale.

Despite his deadly goals and strange mannerisms, however, he was an extremely effective teacher and the students grew to appreciate their teacher despite the fate of the world at stake.

Hisoka might as well be an enigma to many viewers of Hunter X Hunter. Despite his clown-like appearance, he is an incredibly sadistic and bloodthirsty member of the Phantom Troupe. His Nen ability, Bungee Gum, enabled him to make his aura sticky and elastic. This helped him help pull the opponent towards him, pull any objects towards an opponent or himself, and even return projectiles at their sender.

His other ability, Texture Surprise, enabled him to manifest imagery that could make something appear as something else, such as making his wounds look like they have already healed, and he can replicate over a thousand types of textures.

3 Jessie Had Several Past Jobs As A Model, Weather Girl, And A Ninja Before Joining Team Rocket (Pokémon)

It was revealed in various episodes of Pokémon that Jessie once worked past jobs as a model, a weather girl, and even as a ninja before joining Team Rocket.

She also could be very dramatic with her and the rest of Team Rocket's schemes to steal Pokémon by using various disguises and machines to achieve her mission. Some of her dramatic schemes did not even involve stealing Pokémon, including the time when she interrupted a play Ash and his friends had in the episode "The Hero Lillier And The Staff" to dress up like a Lunala. She also disguised herself as a Coordinator under the alias Jessilina to participate in Contests.

2 Miu Amano Is A Doujinshi Artist In A Group That Creates Adult Comics (Blend S)

Miu Amano is one of the waitresses in Blend S that joins the staff midway through the anime adaptation. She is also secretly one of the doujinshi artists in a group called "Hanazono Folder," which specializes in creating adult comics. Since all of the waitresses at Stile Café play a certain role, Miu fulfills the "big sister" personality to portray in front of customers.

She also used her fellow staff members, especially fellow waitress Maika and the manager Dino, as inspiration for her more recent comics.

1 Himari Takakura Is Miraculously Cured From Terminal Illness Thanks To A Penguin-Shaped Hat (Penguindrum)

Himari Takakura suffered from a terminal illness in Penguindrum, also known as Mawaru Penguindrum. However, thanks to a spirit residing in a penguin-shaped hat, she was cured of this same illness. However, every time she dons the hat, she changes into a dominatrix-style figure called the Princess of the Crystal.

While she is the Princess of the Crystal, she wore a skintight costume and ordered her brothers around to find the Penguindrum to extend her life with help from three other penguins.
