Stranger Things' Will Byers has not had an easy life. Between spending time in the Upside Down and having his mind hijacked by a malevolent presence, Will has a boatload of issues to work through. The official Netflix Twitter account has used these events for a rather timely meme.
The meme is a nine picture grid depicting the months of the year, circling the various moods during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. January depicts Will in his Ghostbusters Halloween costume, while April and May show him openly sobbing in despair. Finally, June through September shows Will in the Upside Down --an apt metaphor for life in quarantine.
The meme has been spreading like wildfire on social media, with actors like Gal Gadot getting in on the trend. While social distancing and quarantining are a far cry from the hellish horrors of the Upside Down, this meme manages to capture the loneliness that others have expressed during this time.
Stranger Things was renewed for its fourth season last September and filming was already underway, but production halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. There hasn't been any word on when filming will resume though it was announced that Season 4 will have a larger episode count than usual.
Created by the Duffer Brothers, Stranger Things stars Winona Ryder, Millie Bobbie Brown, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Priah Ferguson, Cary Elwes, Jake Busey and Maya Thurman-Hawke. The first three seasons are currently available on Netflix.
