The following contains spoilers for Season 4 of Stranger Things, now streaming on Netflix.

The Stranger Things gang grows each season, and this season offered a brief introduction to Vickie, who has the potential to become a major player in Season 5. Each season so far has had at least one new break-out character, and it is time to start looking for Season 5's. Whether it is as a love interest for Robin or as a new addition to Hawkins' ragtag group of misfits, Vickie has the potential to foot the bill as a breakout character next season.

Vickie, a Hawkins band member, appeared briefly in Episode 1 of Stranger Things Season 4 as Robin's crush. While the two shared some intriguing glances, she was talked about more than shown as Steve and Robin discussed whether Vickie even liked girls. Steve, in typical fashion, noted that she had a penchant for "that" scene in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. She also popped up in Episode 8 with a boyfriend at the War Zone. That relationship was revealed to be short-lived as she explained to Robin in Episode 9 that she had broken up with him and seemed conflicted about her feelings in general.

Stranger Things Robin and Steve Discuss Vickie

Vickie's main purpose in Season 4 was as a potential love interest for Robin. After giving up on muppet-voiced Tammy Thompson, Robin moved on to develop a crush on Vickie. It is still unclear if Vickie likes girls, but there are strong hints she reciprocates Robin's interest. Stranger Things has a muddied history of dealing with LGBT storylines, but it has a great opportunity to right the ship in Season 5 with Robin and Vickie. Even if the two do not end up together, the show has been lauded as a great example of female friendship, and adding another strong female friend to the mix would be welcome.

Vickie was instantly recognizable to fans of Anne with an 'E,' Netflix's cult-favorite show (the petition to renew the show has over 1.5 million signatures). Portrayed by Amybeth McNulty, both Anne and Vickie are fast-talking outsiders. There is a lot of Anne in Vickie, and that portrayal won her a vocal group of loyal fans. The show is more than willing to put popular performers in smaller roles, but one would expect a larger role next season for someone who just helmed their own Netflix series.

Robin and Vickie on Stranger Things

While the powers that be have promised to hit the ground running on Season 5, there will still be time to integrate new characters into the group dynamic. The obvious person for Vickie to interact with is Steve, as he is Robin's main confidant. Robin's fast-talking conversations with Steve are already highlights of the show, but having him keep up with two rapid-fire smart-as-a-whip characters offers the promise of comedy gold. If they really want to make her a major player, they could add in a backstory to tie her to Barb romantically. That would add a long-theorized layer to Barb's story. The group has had to develop a militant side to face Vecna, and Vickie's hanging out at the War Zone suggests she will have the wherewithal to join any assault they plan.

Stranger Things already has a large ensemble cast, but they do a superlative job of making room for fresh faces and storylines each season. While the show is wrapping up, there is still time and room for a few more characters. Luckily, Vickie fits in with the rest of the Hawkins youngsters and is an ideal candidate for next season's breakout character.
