Stranger Things actor Jamie Campbell Bower is ready to bring Scarecrow to life in the DC Universe's upcoming Batman and Robin film The Brave and the Bold.

While attending Comfest 2023, Bower sat down with Geek House Show to discuss his role as Vecna in the fourth season of Stranger Things. The actor was also asked if he'd be interested in joining the DCU and if so, which character he would want to play in the franchise. "There's been a lot of chatter about Scarecrow recently, that would be cool. To do that, that would be fun," Bower said with a smirk. "Very spooky, that would be great!"

Who Is the Scarecrow?

Created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane, Dr. Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow is a Batman supervillain who debuted in World's Finest #3, which was first published by DC in 1941. A professor of psychology turned criminal mastermind, Scarecrow uses a specially designed fear toxin to exploit the phobias of the people of Gotham City, including the Dark Knight. As one of Batman's most recognizable and well know rogues, the Scarecrow has been adapted to film and television several times, most notably in Batman: The Animated Series, the third season of Titans and Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy.

Scarecrow will also reportedly play a prominent role in Matt Reeves' DC Elseworlds franchise, The Batman Universe, with the character one of the many Batman villains expected to receive their own solo project. The projects remain in very early development at DC Studios, but Reeves is currently meeting with writers and directors to expand The Batman Universe. The writer/director is also busy developing The Batman Part II, an official follow-up to 2022's The Batman starring Robert Pattinson, and The Penguin, an upcoming HBO Max original series set one week after The Batman that will chart Oswald Cobblepot's rise to power in Gotham's criminal underworld.

Damian Wayne Is Coming to the DCU

Following Ben Affleck's final appearance as Bruce Wayne/Batman in the upcoming The Flash, the character will be rebooted for Gunn's forthcoming DCU, with The Brave and the Bold serving as the debut for Gunn's iteration of the Caped Crusader. While specific plot details remain under wraps, The Brave and the Bold will take inspiration from writer Grant Morrison and artist Any Kubert's run on DC Comics' Batman. The film will largely pull from their 2006 comic book story arc, "Batman and Son", which focuses on Bruce Wayne learning that he has fathered a son, Damian, with Talia al Ghul, the daughter of his nemesis, Ra's al Ghul.

The Brave and the Bold does not yet have a release date.
