It’s been confirmed that the Mind Flayer will return for Season 3 of Netflix's Stranger Things.

The revelation came from the recently published Stranger Things companion book, Worlds Turned Upside Down. Among other things, it was revealed that the shadow monster known as the Mind Flayer will return for the next season of the Netflix series. A malevolent and powerful force from the otherworldly Upside Down, the creature is the ruthless hivemind driving the fearsome creatures of his dimension towards Earth and against the series' heroes.

The second season of the series ended with Eleven managing to shut the gate between our world and the Upside Down, thwarting the Mind Flayer’s attempt to crossover fully into the material world.

But it looks like you can’t keep a good smoke monster down. Series producer Shawn Levy writes in the book: “We ended season two with a clear signal that the Shadow Monster was not eliminated, and maybe he's even identified his foe. And that darkness, and the battle that it will require, grows in season three."

The third season of the hit Netflix show will be set in the summer of 1985 and will see the band of friends drifting apart even as the machinations of dark forces threaten the town of Hawkins once again.
