The number of episodes in Season 3 of Netflix’s Stranger Things has been revealed. According to a new report, the third season will run for eight episodes in total. This is the same number of episodes the series premiered with in Season 1, but one fewer than Season 2.
According to TVLine, production for the season is slated to begin in the middle of April, though little else is known about season’s overall story at this time. The show’s second season ended with the portal between our world and the Upside Down seemingly being closed by Eleven, though the final moments of the season revealed that the mysterious Mind Flayer is still alive and kicking.

It was revealed last month, though, that Season 3 would enjoy some key differences from the first two seasons, such as a brand-new evil being introduced and poor Will Byers finally getting a break from being the show’s designated victim-in-perpetual-distress. The season will also jump ahead a year, largely out of necessity – those boys aren’t going to stay middle school-aged forever, after all.
