Actor Millie Bobby Brown revealed that she almost quit acting before landing her breakout role of Eleven in Netflix's Stranger Things. The actor failed to snag a part on HBO's Game of Thrones, which caused Brown to question whether or not she had a future in acting.
Brown discussed how rejection in the film and television industry was discouraging for her while being a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. "I was very disheartened by the rejection, which is something that I tell everyone. This industry is such... It's just full of rejection 24/7." Fallon replied, "It really is."
"You get a lot of no's before you get a yes," Brown said. "I was auditioning for commercials, for anything really. I then auditioned for Game of Thrones and I got a 'no' for that and then that was when I was like, 'Oh, this is really difficult.' And I guess I really wanted that role," she added, without mentioning which role she had hoped to land on the fantastical epic.
"So one of my last kind of goes at this call was this Netflix show called Montauk. I auditioned and like two months later they were like we'd to Skype with you... And the rest is history and we renamed the show Stranger Things." Brown added that being cast on Stranger Things was "definitely what gave [her] that hope of doing it all again."
During her interview, Fallon also expressed a love of her recent film, Enola Holmes and wished her luck in creating a franchise. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the critical consensus is, "Enola Holmes brings a breath of fresh air to Baker Street -- and leaves plenty of room for Millie Bobby Brown to put her effervescent stamp on a franchise in waiting."
Brown starred in Netflix's Enola Holmes as its titular character --who is Sherlock Holmes' precocious little sister who searches for her missing mother, seeks to outsmart her overconfident big brother and help a runaway lord. Enola Holmes is based on the book series of the same name, written by Edgar Award winner Nancy Springer.
Directed by Fleabag's Harry Bradbeer, Enola Holmes stars Millie Bobby Brown, Sam Claflin, Adeel Akhtar, Fiona Shaw, Frances de la Tour, Louis Partridge, Burn Gorman, Susan Wokoma, with Henry Cavill and Helena Bonham Carter. The film is currently on Netflix.
