Fans of Stranger Things may have to wait until 2024 to see Season 5 of the sci-fi TV show.

Speaking in an interview with Collider, David Harbour revealed that he will only begin filming the final series of Stranger Things in 2023 alongside the upcoming Marvel film Thunderbolts. "It's going to have to be a back-and-forth with me," Harbour explained. "They're going to have to sort of share me. And so it is kind of like, I don't know exactly how they're working it, but it's a week on, week off, two weeks on, two weeks off, something like that where I would go back and forth. They both are being shot in Atlanta. That may have also been structured in a certain way, but yes, it is helpful. So I can just literally shoot a scene in Stranger Things and get in my car and run over to the Marvel scene to shoot a scene there maybe."

Harbour - who plays Jim Hopper in the Netflix show - has previously revealed that he expects Season 5 of Stranger Things to only be available to watch in "mid-2024." The actor added that the show's writers still need to "prep and stuff" as well as finish off writing the final story but hoped that it would be completed before the end of 2022. There's been no confirmation over whether that has been the case but with Harbour's filming for both projects set to crossover, it appears to be in line with these earlier comments.

In terms of Stranger Things Season 5’s story, details remain sparse. There is no official premiere date and little has been released in terms of who will feature and or how the narrative will come to a conclusion. The only thing to work with so far is the title of the first episode, released by The Duffer Brothers to celebrate Stranger Things Day. In their announcement, the duo confirmed the first chapter of the final season will be called "The Crawl" but no further information was provided.

What has been made clear by Ross Duffer is that Hopper and the rest of the characters are set to see their stories tied up in this final addition to the franchise. The director stated that Season 5 will "wrap up the arcs" of the show's protagonists and that will be "a culmination" of everything that has come before in the series.

The first four seasons of Stranger Things are available to stream on Netflix.
