Stranger Things writers inject new life into the already high anticipation for the fifth and final season of the popular Netflix drama series with an interesting comparison.

On March 21, the Stranger Things writer's room Twitter account posted an update on how Season 5 of the show is going. According to the scribes, Season 5 is "like if Season 1 and 4 had a baby" and that baby "was injected with steroids." The tweet was welcomed by a lot of excitement in the comments, including memes from the series.

Stranger Things Season 4 remains the most-watched season of the show and Netflix's most-watched English-language series ever. Season 4 attracted 1.35 billion viewing hours within its first 28 days of release, holding on to the viewership mark despite Wednesday's best efforts. Season 4 also garnered several accolades including three People's Choice Awards, a Primetime Emmy nomination and a Grammy nod for its soundtrack.

Season 5 of Stranger Things

Season 5 marks an emotional end to the acclaimed series, with creators Matt and Ross Duffer confirming in February 2022 that the upcoming season would be its swansong. David Harbour, who plays police chief Jim Hopper on Stranger Things, revealed earlier this month that Season 5 filming begins this June. Harbour and co-star Winona Ryder stand to make hefty salaries for the final season, with the veteran duo earning $9.5 million for their roles on the series.

While many Stranger Things enthusiasts don't want the show to end with Season 5, Harbour, as well as fellow series actors Millie Bobby Brown and Finn Wolfhard have suggested it's necessary for the upcoming season to be the last. Brown expressed her desire to move on to other projects given how much of the show's story is out there while Wolfhard claimed in an interview last January that it would be "absurd" for Stranger Things to continue beyond Season 5 because the Duffer Brothers have already created a "perfect" ending for the series.

Stranger Things premiered on Netflix in 2016, with the series set in the 1980s in the small, fictional town of Hawkins, IN. The small-screen sensation is known for its mix of supernatural elements and investigative drama, as well as its fair share of '80s pop culture references. The show also features Sadie Sink, Caleb McLaughlin, Maya Hawke and Gaten Matarazzo.

No release date has been confirmed for Season 5. However, fans can catch up on the previous four seasons via Netflix.
