Whether he was in the Upside Down or Indiana, the demogorgon was the central source of scares in "Stranger Things." Now Spectral Motion, the visual effects house behind the demogorogon and a vast variety of other creatures on film and TV, has released some photos and footage showing the practical effects behind the moment the monster opened its five-fold mouth.

 

Even with quivering lips and without its final paint job, the mask is incredibly impressive.

Set in the 1980s, the first season of “Stranger Things” followed the family and friends of Will Byers, a boy who disappears one rainy night in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana. As the search for Will continues, the townspeople begin to unravel a series of mysteries involving secret government experiments, supernatural forces and a strange little girl.

Details of the second season have been kept largely under wraps, but we do know the episode titles and some possible plot points. We also know that although Barb won’t return for the second season, her missing-persons case will play a part in the storyline.

Created by Matt and Ross Duffer, the first season of “Stranger Things” is available on Netflix. The second season is slated for release in 2017.
