Stranger Things co-creator Ross Duffer recently revealed that Season 5's storytelling approach will take its cues from Season 1.

Duffer discussed the show's upcoming fifth and final season during a "For Your Consideration" press event hosted by Netflix. "[Season 5], the way we see it, is kind of a culmination of all the seasons, so it's sort of got a little bit from each," he said. "Whereas before each season was so distinctly… [Season] 3 is our big summer blockbuster season with big monsters, and [Season] 4 was the psychological horror. I think that what we're trying to do is go back to the beginning a little bit, in sort of the tone of [Season 1]." Duffer went on to say that while Stranger Things Season 5 is influenced by Season 1, its overall scale was nevertheless in-line with that of Season 4.

Little is known about the plot of Stranger Things' fifth season, although it will presumably resolve the cliffhanger ending of the fourth season finale, "Chapter Nine: The Piggyback." Details concerning the show's final, eight-episode batch are slowly starting to emerge, though, including the title of its first installment. Netflix announced via the official Stranger Things Twitter account that the title of Season 5, Episode 1 is "Chapter One: The Crawl," as its way of marking Stranger Things Day. The streamer declined to share any further specifics about the episode, leaving fans to mull over what its tantalizing title could mean.

Who Will (and Won't) Survive Stranger Things S5?

Titles aside, most Stranger Things Season 5 speculation at present revolves around which characters will and won't survive. Not even the show's cast seems to know what's in store for them in the fifth season, however, at least one actor is lobbying hard for a happy ending. David Harbour recently opened up about Hopper's final fate, saying that he believes the former Hawkins police chief "deserves peace." Harbour added that while Matt and Ross Duffer have given him some sense of how Hopper's arc will play out, he doesn't yet know the specifics. The star also revealed that the Duffer Brothers often take into account his own ideas regarding how Hopper should evolve each season.

Harbour isn't the only one who has opinions on Stranger Things' direction, either. His co-star Maya Hawke, who plays Robin Buckley, is on the record as being in favor of seeing Natalia Dyer's Nancy Wheeler end up with Joe Keery's Steve Harrington before the series wraps up.

Stranger Things Seasons 1-4 are currently streaming on Netflix. Season 5 does not yet have a release date, although it is expected to arrive in 2024.
