The recently released Stranger Things 3 is already a certified hit.Four days after the launch of the series' new season, streaming giant Netflix has revealed the sci-fi drama has broken viewing records.

"40.7 million household accounts have been watching the show since its July 4 global launch," Netflix tweeted, "more than any other film or series in its first four days."

What's even more impressive is that nearly half of those households -- 18.2 million, to be exact -- have already finished watching the eight-episode third season.

On top of breaking Netflix's viewing records, Stranger Things 3 was Certified Fresh by Rotten Tomatoes with a 93% rating, sitting just behind Season 1's 96% and Season 2's 94% scores.

Stranger Things 3 takes place on the days leading up to Independence Day in Hawkins. As the cast of fan-favorite characters reunites for summer, their world is once again turned upside down when threats both old and new surface to endanger the small Indiana town.
