Story of Seasons Used To Be Known as Harvest Moon

Story of Seasons has a long history, going back to 1996 in Japan. Known as Bokujō Monogatari (lit. Farm Story) in Japan, the game is an agricultural simulation RPG that allows players to live their best cottagecore lives. Initially produced by Victor Interactive Software, and acquired by Marvelous Entertainment in 2002, gaming publisher Natsume handled the English translation and distribution for North America. The North American and PAL release went by the name Harvest Moon. There were a number of releases under the Harvest Moon banner until 2014, when Marvelous announced their American publisher Xseed games would take over localization. As a result, Natsume took the opportunity to develop its own Harvest Moon spin-off, causing serious confusion among fans of the game and the media. Once Xseed Games began localizing the game, they changed the title to Story of Seasons due to Natsume's ownership of the Harvest Moon name.

As a simulation role-playing game, Story of Seasons invites players to rebuild a run-down farm, turning it into a successful one. In addition to fixing up the farm, players should work on integrating themselves into the community and find a love interest to expand their family. Historically, players could choose between being a girl or a boy. However, the latest iteration will allow them to be male, female, or non-binary. In another first for the series, players can choose their love interest regardless of gender, allowing them to be true to themselves in the game.
