Marvel.com has announced that Steven S. DeKnight will serve as executive producer and showrunner for the upcoming "Daredevil" Netflix series.

McKnight is no stranger to television superheroes, as he wrote, directed and produced episodes of The CW's "Smallville." He also worked on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Angel," "Dollhouse" and the "Spartacus" series for Starz.

McKnight replaces Drew Goddard ("Cabin in the Woods," "Cloverfield") as showrunner. Goddard, who was confirmed late last year as working on "Daredevil," will continue to serve as an executive producer for the show as he works on "The Sinister Six" for Sony.

The "Daredevil" series is set to debut exclusively on Netflix in 2015, the first of four 13-episode Marvel shows to run on the streaming service, along with "Jessica Jones," "Iron Fist" and "Luke Cage." The four shows will then culminate in a Netflix "The Defenders" miniseries
