Best known for co-creating Spider-Man and Doctor Strange for Marvel Comics, Ditko had a decades-long career and was an active creator right up until his death. His projects ranged from Marvel to DC to several independent works, even delivering memorable characters in his later years, like Squirrel Girl. The Objectivist writer-artist injected his philosophy into works like The Question, which would later be expanded upon in the highest-regarded comics work of all-time, Watchmen, in the form of the Question pastiche Rorschach.

Charles Victor Szasz -- the character most fans know as Vic Sage/The Question -- first appeared in Charlton Comics' Blue Beetle #1 in 1967. However, he -- among other characters -- was acquired by DC Comics in the 1980s and was subsequently folded into the DC Universe proper.

Ditko was found dead in his New York City apartment on June 29 but is believed to have passed away two days earlier. He was 90 years old.
