Not exactly the most surprising news of all time, but news nonetheless — it appears that G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra director Stephen Sommers is sticking with the Hasbro franchise he helped launch to the big screen for the currently developing sequel.
According to The Wrap, Sommers will return to direct the sequel, though his involvement in G.I. Joe 2 wasn't always a sure bet due to conflicting reports last summer that he was on the outs with Paramount due to his work on the first film. Assuming that reports of Sommers' involvement with the sequel are accurate, any problems that may have existed between the filmmaker and the studio are apparently water under the bridge.
In addition to Sommers, Channing Tatum is expected to reprise his role as Conrad "Duke" Hauser in the sequel. The film was written by Zombieland and Deadpool screenwriting duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
