Legendary horror author Stephen King's 2014 novel Revival is headed to the big screen courtesy of the filmmakers behind 2019's Doctor Sleep.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy have been tapped by Warner Bros. to produce an adaptation of Revival. Flanagan wrote and directed the Warner Bros.-distributed Doctor Sleep, with Macy serving as a co-producer. Starring Ewan McGregor and based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, Doctor Sleep hit theaters late last year as a sequel to The Shining.
Flanagan is currently penning the script for Warner Bros.' Revival, with an option to direct. Both he and Macy will serve as producers through the pair's production company, Intrepid Pictures. The project is being overseen by Warner Bros.' Kevin McCormick. Interestingly enough, this is not the first time an adaptation of Revival has been attempted. The New Mutants writer/director Josh Boone previously tried to bring the Stephen King novel to life at Universal Pictures, with Russell Crowe in mind to star.
Published in 2014, Revival revolves around the relationship between heroin-addicted musician Jamie Morton and minister turned shady faith healer Charles Jacobs. Jacobs is obsessed with figuring out a way to communicate with his wife and son, who perished in a car accident, and gets more than be bargained for when he discovers something far more horrible. The novel takes inspiration from the cosmic horror seen in and influenced by the work of H.P. Lovecraft.
At this time, no casting or release information is available.
