It Remake Has A Rating, Plans for a Sequel

by  in Movie News Comment

“It” producer Dan Lin has confirmed the horror film will be rated R, and that there are already plans for a sequel.

The upcoming movie, directed by Andrés Muschietti, is a film adaptation of the Stephen King novel by the same name in which an ancient evil disguised as a clown terrorizes a group of small town teens by preying on their greatest fears.

Producer Dan Lin openly discussed the film’s targeted rating with Collider during a press event for another movie Lin is producing, the decidedly-different-in-tone “The LEGO Batman Movie.” Lin said the R rating was a natural fit for the “It,” and went on to confirm plans for a sequel

“It is a rated-R movie,” Lin started, matter of factly. “If you’re going to make a ‘Rated-R movie,’ you have to fully embrace what it is, and you have to embrace the source material. It is a scary clown that’s trying to kill kids. So of course that’s going to be a rated-R movie. The kids are amazing. You very much get a ‘Stand by Me’ vibe as far as their camaraderie and the way they joke with each other and that they really care for each other. They do have a scary crown that’s taken over the town of Derry, so it’s going to be rated R.”

King’s novel deals with themes like memory and childhood trauma through a narrative divided between the late 1950s and late 1980s, following the same group of characters, first as teens then as adults. “It” was adapted into a television miniseries starring Tim Curry as the sinister clown Pennywise in 1990, initially airing on ABC.

Debuting in theaters September 8, “It” is a production of the Lin Company and Vertigo Entertainment directed by Andrés Muschietti and starring Bill Skarsgård, Jaeden Lieberher, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Wyatt Oleff and Chosen Jacobs.
