Stephen King offered his opinion on Halloween Ends, the third film in the Halloween sequel series, and he had only good things to say about it.

King took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the film, revealing that he "enjoyed" it, and that it is "surprisingly character-driven." The tweet came after the film received largely negative initial reviews. It currently holds a 44 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and a 5.3/10 on IMDb.

The new film marks the end of an era, as there (supposedly) won't be any new installments in the franchise. Jamie Lee Curtis, who has played Laurie Strode since John Carpenter's original 1978 film, went as far as to sign a joke contract on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to ensure she doesn't come back as the beloved final girl.

Curtis has also said that Halloween Ends will likely be her last time playing the Scream Queen, explaining, "given what I know about the next movie, I think it will be the last time I will play [Laurie Strode]."

Is the Halloween Franchise Truly Ending?

Some people are a little skeptical about this prediction, however. Carpenter himself said that as long as the Halloween films make money, they will keep on getting made. "I guarantee you if Halloween Ends makes a lot of money, guess what?" he teased. "Just guess what."

But Carpenter doesn't mind if the new film isn't the real end of the Halloween franchise. The director said, "I made the first one as a director, and that's the only one I care about except for the paycheck I get for the others." He added, "I hate to be that kind of a guy, but that's the truth." Still, in the official synopsis for Halloween Ends, Universal promised that this will be "Laurie Strode’s last stand," so any new addition to the franchise would likely have to choose a new protagonist.

Alongside Curtis, the film stars Halloween Kills' Anti Matichak, James Jude Courtney in a reprise of his iconic role as Michael Myers, Yellowstone's Will Patton, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' Kyle Richards, The Hardy Boys' Rohan Campbell, and Nick Castle. The film is directed by David Gordon Green and written by Green, Paul Brad Logan, Chris Bernier, and Danny McBride.

Halloween Ends is currently playing in theaters and is also available to stream on Peacock.
