Zack Snyder, the director of DC Extended Universe films Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, recently made some harsh remarks towards those who criticized his decision to make both Batman and Superman kill their adversaries in his movies.
In short, Snyder said that anyone who was surprised by Batman killing needs to "wake the f-ck up" and that those who believe their heroes haven't committed atrocities are "living in a f-cking dream word."
Unsurprisingly, those comments didn't settle well with a lot of people who might take exception to Snyder's hostile words or his seemingly pessimistic take on the superhero genre.
One of those people is, apparently Stephen Colbert, host of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, who recently took aim at the director's comments on his late night program.
"Zack, these are beloved children's characters," Colbert uttered in disbelief after briefly recounting Snyder's assertions. Colbert then poked fun at Snyder by applying his grim perspective to DC's other big screen heroes, exclaiming, "Aquaman sells opiates and the Flash is a human trafficker, walk it off!"
Snyder's grim interpretation of DC's heroes has long been a point of contention that draws vociferous cries of support and condemnation from different sectors of the fan community.
In Snyder's Batman v Superman, Snyder made the controversial decision for Batman to drop his famous "no killing rule," which is considered to be one of the Dark Knight's most fundamental traits in most modern versions of the character.
Similarly, Snyder has also been criticized for his decision to have Superman snap General Zod's neck in Man of Steel, the brutal death of Jimmy Olsen in Batman v Superman and the widespread destruction of Metropolis in Man of Steel.
