Stephen Amell remains undefeated in his WWE career, having won for “Celebrity Moment of the Year” at last night’s Slammy Awards for his tag-team match against the wrestler known as Stardust. But in winning the award, the “Arrow” star may have just painted an even larger target on his back.
After providing a gloriously scenery-chewing recap of Amell’s 2015, Stardust not only accepted the “Arrow” star’s Slammy Award on his own behalf rather than the actor’s, the wrestler absconded with the trophy for parts unknown. Amell has not yet fully responded to his Slammy win or the subsequent loss of his trophy, though he did promise to address the situation via Facebook soon.
It’s been speculated that Amell and Stardust’s tag-team match at SummerSlam, the WWE’s major summer event, only marked the first part of their program together. Both stars have continued to take playful shots at each other on social media, and Amell has hinted that he’d like another match, this time one-on-one.
The WWE has hopes to make this winter’s Wrestlemania at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX its biggest event ever, and a marquee celebrity match, particularly one with a rich backstory involving entertainers who are savvy on social media, would certainly help raise its profile in the eyes of casual fans.
Wrestlemania 32 is scheduled to take place April 3, 2016.
