Arrow star Stephen Amell opened up about returning to the role in James Gunn's DC Universe.

Speaking to CBR, Amell was asked what it would take for him to return to the role of Oliver Queen, better known as Green Arrow, in the DCEU. While Amell was openly hesitant to be too hopeful of any hypothetical future casting, he did say, "I love the genre," before adding, "I've said this before, but there might be more fun stuff to do with Oliver Queen. So we will see."

Amell first appeared as Queen with the debut of Arrow on The CW in 2012, which quickly expanded into the wider Arrowverse which has come to encompass half a dozen television and two web series all based on the heroes who reside within its bounds. Currently, the only Arrowverse series still running is The Flash starring Grant Gustin. As The Flash races forward in its ninth and final season, it is set to act as the finale for the Arrowverse as a whole.

The End of the Arrowverse

Gustin previously opened up about what it means to not only be leaving the Arrowverse behind but to be closing it out entirely. Gustin pointed toward his focus on The Flash as something that helped him avoid analyzing the bigger picture of it all, saying, "I mean, you're aware that you're part of a greater Arrowverse... but there's no point in thinking about the scale of it when you're just kind of learning your scene and doing your job."

Although Arrow concluded in 2020 with its eighth season, Amell agreed to return to the character for the ninth season of The Flash in what now stands as his final appearance as Oliver Queen. The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace promised fans that the reunion between Amell's Oliver and Gustin's Barry Allen would leave fans on the verge of tears, deeming the moment as "extremely emotional."

Amell isn't the only former DC actor who has spoken about stepping into Gunn's DCU on the silver screen. Gotham's Anthony Carrigan, who portrayed Victor Zsasz on the series throughout its five-season run, said Lex Luthor is one of "a whole other cast of characters I could really sink my teeth into." Regarding the possibility of playing Superman's longtime arch-enemy specifically, Carrigan said, "I would have a field day playing that character."

Season 9 of The Flash is currently airing on The CW. Previous seasons are available to stream on Netflix.
