Static Shock is based on the Milestone Comics character of the same name, who served as the imprint's flagship character. Virgil Hawkins was at the site of the Big Bang -- the event that gave birth to multiple metahumans. Virgil himself gained the ability to manipulate electromagnetic fields and became the superhero Static. Static's co-creator Dwayne McDuffie would serve as a story editor and writer on the series; Static would also appear in the Young Justice animated series.

Static is set to make a return to popular culture, as DC is relaunching Milestone's line of characters as digital-first miniseries. Static will receive his own six-issue miniseries in April. A live-action film is also in the works at Warner Bros., with Michael B. Jordan producing through his Outlier Society banner.

All four seasons of Static Shock are currently available to stream on HBO Max.
