James Gunn and the DCU

Gunn took over DC Studios alongside Peter Safran in November 2022. Since then, the duo have made waves with the slew of plans they have for the DCU going forward, including the first half of a two-part, ten-year media slate, entitled "Gods & Monsters," which is set to kick off with 2025's Superman: Legacy. Gunn previously explained that the upcoming The Flash film starring Ezra Miller will "reset everything" as part of a soft reboot ahead of Blue Beetle, which leads into Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which then sets the stage for the next Superman reboot.

In January, Safran assured fans that the next Superman film would not be an origin story, but instead would focus "On Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing." Safran also noted that the film would feature a focus on the core aspects of the Man of Steel as a character. "Superman represents truth, justice and the American way," Safran said. "He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old fashioned."

DC's Static

Virgil Hawkins, better known as Static, is one of the best-known heroes from the Milestone Universe created by Dwayne McDuffie, Denys Cowan, Michael Davis, Derek T. Dingle, and Christopher Priest. First appearing in a preview contained within 1993's Icon #1, Static would make his first full appearance in the first issue of his self-titled series that same year.

Since his debut, Static has gone on to become a fan-favorite for Milestone and DC enthusiasts, having made the jump to the latter following DC's decision to fold what had essentially been licensed characters into its own brand. Static's household name status was largely bolstered by the character's popular animated television series, Static Shock, which ran for four seasons from 2000 to 2004. Static would also appear on episodes of Justice League Unlimited and Young Justice and has played a prominent role in DC's currently ongoing revival of the Milestone Universe in print.
