Starz may have found its leading man for Outlander, Ronald D. Moore's adaptation of the bestselling sci-fi romance novels by Diana Gabaldon.

Deadline reports the official Starz Twitter account originally sent out, "It’s #FollowFriday here at #STARZ. Follow Sam Heughan (@Heughan) who will play the role of Jamie Fraser in #OutlanderSTARZ. #FF," but it was deleted within the hour. That was soon followed by word from Starz that the message was premature and that Heughan has not yet officially signed on just yet.

Meanwhile, Gabaldon got in on the tweet action as well with, "I can’t confirm that contract is signed, but saw @heughan audition tapes. #jawdrop."

Heughan was a regular on the BBC series Doctors and has also appeared in A Very British Sex Scandal, Young Alexander the Great and Emulsion.

Outlander was just ordered to series by the cable network at the end of June. The time-traveling tale that finds World War II nurse Claire transported to 1743 where she's made to marry a Scottish warrior named Jamie, something that would probably bother the husband she left back in her own time. The 16-episode first season begins filming in Scotland this year with an eye toward a 2014 debut on Starz.
