The long-discussed remake of Paul Verhoeven’s 1997 sci-fi film “Starship Troopers” could very well land on the small screen.
“We’re developing it. We’ve actually been talking about either doing it as a feature or doing it as a television show,” producer Neal H. Moritz revealed to HitFix last week at CinemaCon. “So, we’ll see.”
Loosely based on Robert A. Heinlein’s novel, Verhoeven’s film is a gleefully over-the-top critique of militarism and the action genre that followed a group of high school graduates as they enlist in the military to earn citizenship and wage war against a hostile alien species of giant insects.
Moritz hired “Thor” and “X-Men: First Class” screenwriters Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz in 2011 to pen the remake, but it’s unknown whether they’re still involved.
