The CW announced the official premiere date for DC's Stargirl Season 2.

Stargirl will be returning Tuesday, Aug. 10 at 8 p.m. ET, followed by an original episode of Superman & Lois at 9 p.m. ET. Unlike Season 1, which saw new episodes of Stargirl air on DC Universe before The CW, Season 2 will air exclusively on The CW.

Stargirl follows the adventures of Courtney Whitmore, a high school student who discovers the Cosmic Staff of Starman and uses it to lead a new generation of superheroes. For the second season, Courtney will face off against Eclipso, an ancient life form trapped in a blue gem that was controlled by the Injustice Society of America. However, the diamond was stolen by Cindy in Season 1, so it is only a matter of time before he starts causing trouble. Eclipso feeds off humanity's flaws, grief and fear and uses them to his advantage. He was created by Bob Haney and Lee Elias and made his first comic appearance in House of Secrets #61 (August 1963).

Eclipso will be joined by The Shade, an English immortal who has magical shadow powers. Having lived for so long, he has witnessed trauma after trauma, but masks his pain with witty comments and a nihilistic philosophical outlook. He was created by Gardner Fox and Harold Wilson Sharp and made his comics debut in Flash Comics #33 (September 1942).

However, Courtney won't be alone when she confronts these new beings. She will be joined by Jakeem Thunder, the new wielder of the Thunderbolt pen. The new season will also see Arrowverse star John Wesley Shipp reprising his role as Jay Garrick for flashback scenes during his time with the original Justice Society of America.

Stargirl stars Brec Bassinger as Courtney Whitmore (Stargirl), Luke Wilson as Pat Dugan (S.T.R.I.P.E.), Joel McHale as Sylvester Pemberton (Starman), Trae Romano as Mike Dugan, Yvette Monreal as Yolanda Montez (Wildcat), Amy Smart as Barbara Whitmore, Anjelika Washington as Beth Chapel (Dr. Mid-Nite), Cameron Gellman as Rick Tyler (Hourman), Joy Osmanski as Ms. Brooks (Tigress), Christopher James Baker as Dr. Henry King (Brainwave), Neil Jackson as Jordan Mahkent (Icicle), Nelson Lee as Dr. Ito (Dragon King), Neil Hopkins as Lawrence Crock (Sportsmaster), Jonathan Cake as The Shade, Nick Tarabay as Eclipso and Jim Gaffigan as the voice of Thunderbolt. Season 2 premieres Tuesday, Aug. 10 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
