The CW has released a new set of still images from its DC television series Stargirl, the second season of which is slated to premiere on the network next month. These images highlight returning cast members from Season 1, as well as some newcomers -- namely Ysa Penarejo and Jonathan Cake.

In Stargirl Season 2, Penarejo plays Jennie -- who fans of DC Comics will know as Jennifer-Lynn Hayden, aka Jade -- the daughter of the original Green Lantern, Alan Scott. Meanwhile, Cake portrays Richard Swift, aka The Shade, a villain who was once a member of the Injustice Society. Both characters previously debuted in Stargirl's Season 2 trailer.

The new photos were shared exclusively by TVLine. One features Courtney Whitmore/Stargirl's (Brec Bassinger) step-father, Pat Dugan (Luke Wilson), having a conversation with Jennie. Another sees Jennie standing alongside out-of-costume members of the Justice Society of America, Courtney included. Meanwhile, in an image of his own, The Shade is seen sitting at a table while sharply dressed. Two additional photos were released as well, one of which features the apparent return of Sylvester Pemberton, aka Starman (Joel McHale), while the other sees Pat standing alongside the suited-up JSA.

Courtney Whitmore and the JSA debuted on television during the Arrowverse's "Crisis on Infinite Earth" crossover event on The CW back in late 2019, at which point it was confirmed that the Stargirl series was set on Earth-2 in the new multiverse. Stargirl kicked off proper in 2020, debuting on the now-defunct DC Universe streaming service, with new episodes airing on The CW the day after their DC Universe premiere.

Following its 13-episode first season, Stargirl was renewed for Season 2 and became a CW original. The show has already been renewed for Season 3.

Stargirl stars Brec Bassinger as Courtney Whitmore (Stargirl), Luke Wilson as Pat Dugan (S.T.R.I.P.E.), Joel McHale as Sylvester Pemberton (Starman), Trae Romano as Mike Dugan, Yvette Monreal as Yolanda Montez (Wildcat), Amy Smart as Barbara Whitmore, Anjelika Washington as Beth Chapel (Dr. Mid-Nite), Cameron Gellman as Rick Tyler (Hourman), Joy Osmanski as Ms. Brooks (Tigress), Christopher James Baker as Dr. Henry King (Brainwave), Neil Jackson as Jordan Mahkent (Icicle), Nelson Lee as Dr. Ito (Dragon King), Neil Hopkins as Lawrence Crock (Sportsmaster), Jonathan Cake as The Shade, Alkoya Brunson as Jakeem Thunder, Nick Tarabay as Eclipso, Ysa Penarejo as Jennie (Jade) and Jim Gaffigan as the voice of Thunderbolt.
