WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for "Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E., Part Two," the Stargirl Season 1 finale.

Starman lives -- and he's looking for his old pal Stripesy.

As revealed by "Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E., Part Two," the Stargirl Season 1 finale, Sylvester Pemberton did not die during his last skirmish with the Injustice Society of America. In fact, he is alive and whole, given his appearance in the last scene of the episode.

As the finale drew to a close, the episode jumped to Pat and Barbara's old apartment complex in North Hollywood, California. The camera panned over a retro blue convertible as the blond man behind the steering wheel parked it. When he exited the vehicle, he slung a ratty old backpack over his shoulder and glanced down at a piece of paper before entering the building.

Inside, the man knocked on the building manager's door. "Can I help you?" the building manager asked.

"I'm looking for Pat Dugan," the man replied.

The building manager frowned. "He doesn't live here," he said. "Moved. Months ago, now."

"Any idea where I can find him?" the man tried.

"Who are you?" the building manager shot back.

The episode answered that question by cutting to the man's face, revealing he was Joel McHale's Starman. "I'm an old friend," he explained with a smile. "Name's Sylvester Pemberton." And with that, the season drew to a close.

Since the series premiere, Pat Dugan has been under the impression Sylvester died an the ISA attack that took place 10 year prior. He even took Starman's Cosmic Staff and other superhero paraphernalia with him, to one day pass the mantle along to someone else. Pat obviously didn't expect that to be his stepdaughter Courtney, but he clearly mourned his friend and came to terms with the Justice Society of America's end before moving on with Barbara Whitmore.

Starman's reappearance raises several questions, which will likely be addressed in the upcoming second season. For now, though, his return leaves fans to wonder how he survived his near-fatal injury from Icicle. Further, he has been missing for over 10 years; why has he decided to seek Pat out now, and not before this point? It is certainly possible the ISA held him captive somehow and their demise set him free, but his scene provided so few details that it's impossible to know for sure.

Plus, when Sylvester does find Pat, he may want the Cosmic Staff back. That could be potentially devastating for Courtney, as the Staff is sentient and would have to choose between them. Additionally, Sylvester's arrival in Blue Valley could change her perception of Starman. After all, a flesh-and-blood person is much different than a memory and a legacy, so she may be in for a rude awakening when she meets the man that Pat put up on a pedestal for her.

DC Universe's Stargirl stars Brec Bassinger as Courtney Whitmore (Stargirl) and Luke Wilson as Pat Dugan (S.T.R.I.P.E.). The series will return for Season 2 on The CW. It also stars Amy Smart, Yvette Monreal, Anjelika Washington, Cameron Gellman, Trae Romano, Jake Austin Walker, Hunter Sansone, Meg DeLacy, Neil Jackson and Christopher James Baker.
