When Stargirl premieres next week, Luke Wilson will don the giant mechanical suit of S.T.R.I.P.E. as Courtney Whitmore's (Brec Bassinger) stepfather Pat Dugan. Though Wilson plays a character with immense knowledge of the Justice Society of America, his real-life knowledge of the DC Universe is a bit more spotty.

Wilson was part of a video chat on the Team Coco website, hosted by Conan O'Brien. When O'Brien asked him if he was a comic book fan, Wilson responded, "I was more of a MAD Magazine guy!"

"I really did have fun getting into the superhero world...I did have trouble," Wilson admitted. "There's so many characters, like villains and supervillains and villains that used to be good and bad." His familiarity with the DC Universe is limited: "I always get Johnny Thunder and Hawkman mixed up...they sound the same to me! Sometimes I get a little mixed up with the DC Comics superhero lore and the names."

Wilson also said that he referred to Icicle as Iceman on set, although Iceman is the name of a Marvel character. He even confessed to running into fans on the street and displaying his lack of knowledge, comparing it to mixing up sports players.

DC Universe's Stargirl stars Brec Bassinger as Courtney Whitmore (Stargirl) and Luke Wilson as Pat Dugan (S.T.R.I.P.E.). The series will premiere Monday, May 18 on DC Universe and Tuesday, May 19 on The CW.
