Stargirl lead Brec Bassinger revealed the canceled fourth season of the CW series would have reached even wilder Golden Age heights.

While responding to fan questions on The Wayne Ayers Podcast, Bassinger shared her thoughts on Geoff Johns' Stargirl Season 4 pitch ahead of the show's series finale. Though she didn't disclose what would happen in Season 4, Bassinger described it as "insane," saying, "Like it would have been, it just would have been epic. Like on a whole different level, and I actually believe that's why it took so long for us to officially get the cancellation news. Because everyone wanted this fourth season to be made because it was... Geoff came in with such a wonderful idea and that's why, I think, everyone really fought for it."

Earlier in her interview, Bassinger confirmed that two versions of Stargirl's finale were shot in case The CW renewed it, with the unused one laying the groundwork for Season 4. She then suggested Johns might include this ending on the show's Season 3 Blu-ray/DVD set whenever it comes out.

Stargirl Is Coming to an End

Despite ending after only three seasons, Johns -- who created the character of Courtney Whitmore/Stargirl -- revealed after Statrgirl's cancelation that he planned this length from the start. "When I originally envisioned Stargirl, I had a three-season 'trilogy' in my mind so to be able to complete that trilogy and end on a true ending for the series is an absolute gift," he wrote on Facebook. Johns also confirmed that "we had other JSA ideas brewing, but we knew the writing was on the wall when the Network was up for sale, so we planned accordingly to deliver an ending for us and for the fans that would have complete creative closure in the best possible way."

Debuting in 2020, Stargirl follows Courtney as she and her family move to the small town of Blue Valley, NE, to begin a new life. However, upon discovering the Cosmic Staff among her step-father Pat Dugan's valuables, Courtney learns of his Justice Society of America past and begins rebuilding the organization with friends she met in Blue Valley. For Season 3, Stargirl established a long-running mystery around the death of recurring villain Gambler, with Courtney's team -- now including former Starman Sylvester Pemberton -- searching for his killer and the identity of whoever was spying on their team.

In addition to Stargirl, a different JSA roster recently appeared in DC's Black Adam, consisting of Hawkman, Doctor Fate, Cyclone and Atom Smasher. DC also released a new Stargirl comic written by Johns called Stargirl: The Lost Children.

Stargirl's series finale airs Wednesday, Dec. 7, on The CW.
