In its push to deliver more genre entertainment, Netflix is tapping one of the more successful producers in the world of televised sci-fi.

Variety is reporting that the streaming TV giant has signed a deal with Stargate SG-1 co-creator Brad Wright to create Travelers – a new series starring Will & Grace and Perception star Eric McCormack. The show will focus on a far future team of FBI agents who travel back to our time to help save humanity from itself.

Mackenzie Porter, Patrick Gilmore, Jared Paul Abrahamson, Nesta Marlee Cooper and Reilly Dolman also star while Sherlock’s Nick Hurran will direct the pilot.

"My old friend Brad Wright has created a fantastic, complex story with some very rich and complicated characters, and I’m awfully happy to be one of them," McCormack told the trade. Travelers is expected to run for 12 episodes.

Starting with 1997's original series, the televised Stargate universe that wright oversaw lasted an astonishing 14 years. This will be his first major project since Stargate Universe wrapped in 2011.
