"Stardust" Director Vaughn to direct "Thor"

Variety is reporting that "Stardust" and "Layer Cake" director Matthew Vaughn has been tapped to direct the Marvel Studios feature film version of "Thor," with an aim to begin production this winter before a possible strike. Mark Protosevich ("I Am Legend") has written the adaptation of the Norse god.

Vaughn was at one point attached to direct "X-Men 3" before having to step down for personal reasons. Vaughn is also known for producing the Guy-Ritchie directed films "Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels" and "Snatch," while making his debut as a director with "Layer Cake." The three films as a whole are all highly stylized and make up something of a trilogy looking at the criminal underground of England. "Layer Cake" star Daniel Craig shot to stardom following the release of that film, convincing the world he could be the next James Bond.
