The community around Stardew Valley has quickly grown into one of the biggest and most passionate in gaming. What started as Eric Barone's indie homage to Harvest Moon has grown to become one of the best farming sims in gaming. Even six years after its initial launch, Stardew Valley still attracts new players worldwide. Stardew's community is also still discovering new secrets and creating new theories. There has been a popular theory within the fan community that Abigail is not actually Pierre's daughter.

The theory suggests that Abigail's real father is actually the reclusive wizard Rasmodius who lives outside of town. Many fans support this theory based on the suggestive dialogue that players can hear from Rasmodius, Pierre, and Caroline. However, a Reddit user has recently proposed a new theory that suggests Abigail is not, in fact, the wizard's daughter. Posted by u/cuatrocuatroocho on Reddit, this theory refutes the idea that Abigail is Rasmodius' daughter and suggests that the most likely candidate is actually Emily.

Most fans believe the theory that Abigail is the wizard's daughter based on some unlockable dialogue and the fact that she shares a hair color with the wizard. Abigail's mother, Caroline, states that she used to, "take secret walks to the Wizard Tower," but she also implores the player not to tell Pierre because he, "has jealousy issues." Pierre later bemoans over Abigail not sharing his looks, and he tells the player, "Don't tell my wife, but I sometimes wonder if I'm really the father." Lastly, Rasmodius will tell the player that he suspects one of the locals is actually his daughter.

According to the Reddit post, each of these clues can be explained. The post states that Abigail dyes her hair, so it isn't a natural color. It also points out that Pierre has jealousy issues, so he is a bit of an unreliable source. Also, Caroline is not the only NPC in Stardew Valley that goes to the Wizard Tower, so her dialogue might not actually imply anything. Finally, it claims that Abigail has no magical prowess whatsoever, which makes her even more of an unlikely candidate. The new theory suggests that the more logical candidate for Rasmodius' daughter is Emily.

There is some evidence to support the idea of Emily being the wizard's true daughter. For one, Emily does not resemble her sister at all. Her sister Haley has blonde hair and blue eyes whereas Emily has blue hair with purple eyes. That would make Rasmodius' and Emily's eye colors eerily similar. The theory also points out that Emily has an affinity for magical abilities. She knows what the rain spirits are, and she explains them to the player when they appear on the farm. The theory also claims that she can produce illusions that the player can see during one of Emily's heart events. Lastly, Rasmodius tells players that he has secretly been searching the town for a new magical apprentice. It suggests that, while looking for an apprentice, Rasmodius discovers Emily, and that is when he begins to wonder if he might have a daughter in the village.

It seems like there are definitely reasons to believe Emily is Rasmodius' daughter and not Abigail. On the other hand, both make equally interesting candidates. The possibility remains that both of the girls could be his daughters, or perhaps neither of them are. Regardless of which theory is true, it is a testament to the storytelling of Stardew Valley and its passionate community that fans are still finding new lore years after the game's release.
