In Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, Anakin Skywalker reaches out to Jedi Master Yoda for advice when he starts seeing visions of Padmé's death. However, as a Reddit thread by user u/Jacob_wallace points out, Yoda may have been the worst person for Anakin to turn to.

Anakin needed someone who showed compassion and empathy, and the Jedi, who are notorious for burying their feelings, may not give the best advice when it comes to this. Furthermore,  given Yoda's extreme devotion to the Jedi Order, as well as his life span, he makes for a horrible grief counselor.

Yoda Has Lived Too Long

Yoda belongs to a species that has an extremely long life span, with The Mandalorian's Grogu being a "baby" at 50-years-old. Being around 900 years of age himself, Yoda would have seen countless people die, and he most likely would have had to train himself to become very detached just to maintain his mental stability. In addition, Yoda has always been depicted as someone who adheres more strictly to Jedi traditions, which already dictate that their followers detach themselves from emotional connections.

The only advice the Jedi Master gave to Anakin was to, "rejoice for those around us who transform into the Force. Mourn them, do not. Miss them, do not. Attachment leads to jealousy, the shadow of greed, that is." While telling Anakin to, "let go of everything you fear to lose," might be good advice for someone with a centuries spanning life, it's harder to apply to the relatively short life Anakin was bound to live. In fact, this way of thinking prompts Anakin to seek alternative methods through the Dark Side.

Anakin Should Have Gone to Obi-Wan or Ahsoka

Obi-Wan Kenobi would've given Anakin better advice than Yoda. Unlike Yoda, Obi-Wan has allowed himself to develop emotional connections throughout his life, notably with his love for Mandalorian leader Satine Kryze. Obi-Wan's devotion to the Jedi Order led to the end of their relationship, and he ultimately watched her die in his arms when Darth Maul killed Satine, so he could've related to Anakin's concerns.

Obi-Wan was one of the few Jedi that audiences knew of who engaged in a romantic relationship, and as such, he would have been in a better position to give advice to Anakin. However, Anakin's increasing dissatisfaction with the Jedi Order could mean that someone outside of the Order should have given him the help he needed, like Ahsoka Tano.

Although Ahsoka left the Jedi Order, the two close friends met once again in Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7, Episode 9, "Old Friends Not Forgotten," which takes place before Revenge of the Sith. It would have made sense for Anakin to reach out to Ahsoka -- who is aware of Anakin's relationship with Padmé -- as the two shared frustrations about the Jedi Order, and, like Obi-Wan, she's a less traditional Jedi.

Yoda may have been one of the most powerful Jedi, but his wealth of experience does not make up for the fact that his long lifespan, lack of compassion and strict dedication to the Jedi makes him the worst person for Anakin to turn to for counseling. Meanwhile, he had two potential friends to turn to, but instead he looked to the Dark Side for guidance in the end.
