Three of the main characters of "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," Jyn Erso, Chirrut Îmwe, and Baze Malbus, will be entering the Star Wars Extended Universe with two new young adult novels that will explore their backstories, according to StarWars.com.

New York Times bestselling author Beth Davis will dive into Jyn Erso's history in "Rebel Rising." The novel will show her time with the extremist Saw Gerrera and how it shaped her into the woman that she would become in "Rogue One."

Exploring both the good and the bad, the novel promises to show the once-close relationship between Jyn and Saw that will ultimately lead to Jyn facing an unthinkable betrayal.

Chirrut and Baze will appear in "Guardians of the Whills," which will be written by New York Times bestselling author and Eisner Award winner Greg Rucka. This middle-grade novel will follow Chirrut and Baze after the Empire occupies Jedha. After the Kyber Temple is destroyed, Chirrut and Baze do everything they can to protect the people of Jedha, including teaming up with rebel extremist Saw Gerrera.

The novels will land on book shelves on May 2, but both are available for pre-order on Amazon, Barnes & Nobles, Books-a-Million, Indiebound and Indigo.

"Rogue One" hit movie theaters on December 16 and was the fourth film in 2016 to gross $1 billion at the global box office. It was directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker.
