Despite promises that the final instalment of the Skywalker saga, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, would reveal the origin stories of new characters like Poe Dameron, audiences were ultimately left with more questions than answers. Thankfully, while we may never see the Resistance pilot on the big screen again, the character will continued to be explored elsewhere.

A new young adult novel, Star Wars: Poe Dameron: Free Fall, will reveal the details of Dameron's checkered past as a spice smuggler, as well as his relationship with Zorii Bliss, who was introduced in Episode IX and was shown to have had a history with Poe.

Written by Alex Segura with covert art by Alice X. Zhang, Free Fall will see Poe as a young teenager as he manoeuvres through the galaxy's seedy underbelly and gradually turns into the dedicated Resistance pilot introduced in The Force Awakens. According to Segura, in an interview with PolygonFree Fall is "very much a galactic crime novel." The novel's description reads:

"It's been a few years since Poe's mother passed away, and Poe and his father, who was a pilot for the Rebellion, have had more and more trouble connecting. Not sure what he wants to do with his life, teenage Poe runs away from home to find adventure, and to figure out what kind of man he is meant to be."

Star Wars: Poe Dameron: Free Fall will be available for pre-order soon and will arrive in bookstores on August 4, 2020.
