Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of the most beloved characters in all of Star Wars. He was first introduced as an elderly Jedi Master who became Luke's mentor, leading the young Skywalker down the path to becoming a Jedi Knight. The prequel films then expanded on Obi-Wan's history, showing him in his prime. Instead of a grey-bearded retiree living in a desert cave, Obi-Wan was seen as a charismatic sassy Jedi Knight, equally skilled in diplomacy as in lightsaber combat. He was one of the greatest Jedi to serve in the Clone Wars and was one of the only ones to survive Order 66. But how would he fare against Marvel's greatest and most diverse team of heroes?

The X-Men have long been a metaphor for diversity, and as such, they have a wide set of powers between them. Some are near godlike in their abilities, but even the weaker ones are quite impressive--and it does not take a god to bring down a mere Jedi, even one as skilled as Obi-Wan Kenobi. Any fight between the Jedi Master and Marvel's X-Men would truly be something to behold.

10 He Could Beat: Cyclops Has Less Combat Experience & Weaker Powers

Cyclops

From an early age, Cyclops was groomed to be the leader of the X-Men. He is in peak physical form, is a master strategist, and has decades of combat experience. Whether battling anti-mutant hate groups or alien invaders from parallel dimensions, he almost always manages to triumph. Also, he can shoot eye beams at his enemies.

Unfortunately for him, Obi-Wan Kenobi was trained from an even earlier age in the ways of the Jedi, has survived at least as many battles, and has the Force—which is far more powerful than mere optic blasts.

9 Could Beat Him: Storm Is One Of The Most Powerful & Skilled X-Men Ever

Storm flying and summoning lightening, her eyes crackling with electricity

Storm is an Omega-level mutant--or at the very least, she is capable of defeating Omega-level mutants, as she has demonstrated. Definitions of this term vary, but it is often used to describe a mutant who could quite literally alter the face of the Earth beyond recognition with their powers. It is also worth noting that--like Cyclops--she led the X-Men, and in fact, she took over leadership from him after she was depowered and still managed to beat him in a fight.

Obi-Wan Kenobi has survived many of the conditions that her powers can invoke. Force Lightning and inclement weather are things he knows how to handle. But he cannot hope to withstand the full force of Storm unleashing her true power.

8 He Could Beat: Domino's Luck Can Only Last So Long Compared To The Force

Domino X-Men Civil War

There are times when winning a battle comes down to luck. Domino usually counts on such times to improve upon her already impressive physical fitness and combat skills, giving her an edge in most fights.

While Domino could probably defeat even stronger Jedi Masters than Obi-Wan Kenobi, she could not beat him for two reasons. First, he also excels at manipulating the odds in his favor through strategy and adaptability. To be clear, she is far better at this than he is, but it undermines her greatest strength. Second, Obi-Wan was a master of Form III of lightsaber combat, which emphasized defense and resilience. Plainly put, he could survive anything Domino threw at him and turn it back on her.

7 Could Beat Him: Jean Grey Is One Of The World's Strongest Psychics

Jean Grey from XMen

Jean Grey is best known for becoming possessed by the Phoenix, and thereby becoming imbued with cosmic power capable of wiping out whole worlds. However, her telekinetic and telepathic abilities already surpass what most mortals could dream of.

Even the most powerful Jedi Masters in the history of the Star Wars Galaxy would struggle to face off against Jean Grey. Obi-Wan might be lucky enough to survive an encounter and he could probably negotiate with her to deescalate a conflict, but could never hope to defeat her in open combat.

6 He Could Beat: Wolverine's Claws Don't Have The Reach To Get Past A Lightsaber

Wolverine in his Patch identity

This would be a very close fight. Wolverine can heal from any injury and it seems very likely that his adamantium skeleton and claws would be able to withstand the heat of a lightsaber.

There are three ways that Obi-Wan could beat the X-Men’s Canadian berserker. The first option is he could try negotiating with a little help from the Force, perhaps convincing Wolverine that this isn’t the fight he’s looking for. If this failed, he could utilize his amazing lightsaber skills, keeping Wolverine at a distance with the length of the blade. Finally, the Jedi Master could use the Force Speed ability to move faster than his opponent, giving him the winning edge.

5 Could Beat Him: Charles Xavier Is The World's Most Powerful Telepath

Xavier sitting with his fingers pressed together against his lips

As someone who uses the Force, Obi-Wan Kenobi has access to limited telepathic abilities. Unfortunately for him, he can’t possibly hope to withstand someone like Charles Xavier.

The founder of the X-Men is among the most powerful telepaths in the world. His brain is a weapon of unimaginable power. Lightsabers and Force abilities cannot hope to compete with the sheer power of Xavier's mind, and Obi-Wan's famous powers of suggestion would be useless here.

4 He Could Beat: Armor Could Just Be Force-Pushed Away

astonishing-x-men-armor

Armor has the ability to form a force field around herself, channeling the spirits of her ancestors into a form of spiritual psychokinetic shield. This barrier usually conforms around her as a bulbous full body armor, hence her moniker.

The truth is, there is no way to know whether a lightsaber could pierce her armor or not. It’s possible that Obi-Wan could cut right through her protective force fields. However, if she was able to repel a lightsaber Blade, he could just Force push her away and there wouldn’t really be anything Armor could do about it.

3 Could Beat Him: Emma Frost Could Repel Him With Her Diamond Skin & Control His thoughts

Emma Frost

The once-and-future White Queen of the Hellfire Club is Emma Frost, a mutant with two very distinctive abilities. She is both a telepath and is capable of turning her skin into diamond.

It does not seem that a lightsaber has ever tried to cut through a diamond, so it is possible that Emma’s skin could repel the Jedi Master’s blade. However, he would never get close enough to try, She would enter his mind and convince him that he was porg or perhaps she would make him develop a phobia of blonde women. The battle would be over before it began.

2 He Could Beat: Cannonball Could Be Stopped With A Simple Force Push

Cannonball blasting Cropped

Sam Guthrie operates under the name Cannonball, due to the fact that he can blast off and rocket through the air, turning himself into a nigh-indestructible human missile. He has a strong sense of personal obligation to protect those he cares for but he’s also a bit of an impulsive hothead.

All it would take to stop Cannonball is a good Force Push to redirect his flight path. Then, once he crashed into the ground, he would lose his defensive protection.

1 Could Beat Him: Kitty Pryde Has Ninja Training & Could Phase Through His Attacks

Kitty Pryde

Kitty Pryde’s ability to phase makes it very difficult to hurt her. But she has so many other skills that make her a formidable foe. She has received ninja training and has more than a decade of real-world combat experience. She is a skilled sword fighter and an expert at unarmed combat.

Her phasing would allow her to both avoid Obi-Wan’s attacks and phase through his defensive fighting techniques. However, as neither of these characters is truly malicious, chances are any fight would end before things got out of hand.
