When it came to the unique stories that make up Star Wars: Visions, Lucasfilm was never worried about oversaturating the market with content set in the galaxy far, far away.

Executive producer James Waugh spoke to The Direct about bringing the new anime anthology series to life for Disney+. Created by seven different anime studios, the series will feature nine episodes, all set to release tomorrow. And it's the streaming service that made the team confident about bringing it to life.

"From a broader kind of creative strategy perspective, Disney+ has changed the way we're viewing a lot of what's possible with Star Wars," Waugh said. "So you can get shows like The Mandalorian and Boba Fett because the platform allows for it."

"When it comes to things like Visions, I would say that we weren't ever concerned about the oversaturation potentiality with Visions in particular, and I think the reason was we were offering something that's kind of a diversification of what the offering is," Waugh continued. "We weren't concerned that this was going to impact Star Wars in aggregate, we thought this would be a breath of fresh air for people to explore Star Wars in an exciting new way."

While Visions will pull from many existing corners of the Star Wars universe, it won't be beholden to any timeline or continuity. The studios and creators were given free rein to explore the ideas established by the films, shows, games, comics, and books in new ways, without having to worry about where things fit into the larger narrative.

"Are we worried about oversaturation? I think we're always very thoughtful and cautious about how do we keep Star Wars' specialness in this landscape," Waugh concluded. "We're mindful, but this wasn't one of those instances where we had our spidey-senses on a lot because we felt this was such a new offering."
