At Star Wars Celebration Chicago, the very first full-length trailer for Vader Immortal, an all-new VR Star Wars story series from ILMxLAB and Oculus, debuted, and from the looks of it, players may very well be tempted to join the Dark Side.
The footage begins with a game clutching a lightsaber hilt in the corridor of a decidedly Imperial ship. From there, we're transported to Darth Vader's castle on Mustafar, as the player (i.e. you) is stunned, interrogated and seemingly torn between escaping Vader's clutches and aiding him.
“Whether it’s hearing Darth Vader’s breathing behind you and physically turning to face him in person or wielding a lightsaber with your own hands, Vader Immortal captures the ultimate wish fulfillment," Oculus Head of Experience Colum Slevin said when the series was first announced. "Untethered VR immerses you in this universe and places you at the center of this amazing story.”
The first installment of a planned three-part series, Vader Immortal: Episode I was written and executive produced by David S. Goyer. It's currently planned to release in spring 2019 on the Oculus Quest.
