For years, many fans of Star Wars have questioned the logic of how Padme Amidala died in Revenge of the Sith, which claimed she died from a broken heart. In light of this, many fans have theorized that there may be more to the matter than her simply losing the will to live. One theory on Reddit has an interesting take on the subject, suggesting that her death may have been the result of a failed Force Dyad between Padme and Anakin.

This idea comes from a longstanding prequel theory about Anakin using the Force to compel Padme to love him over the events of Attack of the Clones. While The Clone Wars indicates that the love between the two is genuine, some sort of Force connection between them would explain why they fell in love so quickly. The introduction of the Force Dyad -- a bond allowing two Force strong individuals to feel each other's thoughts, emotions and experiences as their own -- in the sequel trilogy could retroactively apply to Anakin and Padme's relationship, especially with their grandson being one of the people involved in such a connection.

There is evidence to suggest that Anakin and Padme had some sort of Force bond, especially in Revenge of the Sith, when the two of them are looking at each other from the Jedi Temple and her apartment, as Padme can clearly tell that something is wrong with Anakin, even if she doesn't know what. Furthermore, Anakin's line in Episode II, where he says he thought about her every day, could allude to him accidentally creating the Dyad between them back in The Phantom Menace, with the two of them subconsciously bonding over the course of ten years.

This would explain why Padme falls in love with him so easily and why she can forgive some of Anakin's more questionable actions and attitudes, since deep down she knows the real him. As such, she is able to connect with him on an emotional level that no one else could. However, while the emotional and mental bond is there, the Dyad undoubtedly doesn't work as a result of Padme's lack of Force sensitivity, meaning the life and Force energy could only flow one way.

Therefore, when Anakin is strapped to the operating table for his painful transformation into Darth Vader, he is unintentionally draining the life out of Padme as she gives birth, killing her in the process. Given Palpatine's interest in the Force Dyad, this would also explain how he knows with certainty that Vader caused her death, as he could have sensed Anakin draining the life from her. He may have even assured this would happen by forcing the connection open.

This would explain why the medical droids suggest she lost her will to live, as they wouldn't understand what was happening. While the Force Dyad didn't officially come into play until the sequel trilogy, this theory gives fans a more probable explanation for Padme's death.
