In Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Billy Dee Williams made his long-awaited return as fan-favorite character Lando Calrissian. Lando was last seen in Return of the Jedi after the Rebellion successfully defeated the Empire. In Episode IX, Lando resurfaced on the planet Pasaana, where he once again joined the fight for freedom. This time, he lent a helping hand in Rey's quest, and he eventually assumed command of the Millennium Falcon once again to lead the Rebel forces in battle against the First Order.

Lando has always been a man with a keen sense of style, as we have seen in both the original movies and Solo: A Star Wars Story. And this is very much the same in the character's return in Episode IX. He still has his colorful ensembles and his signature cape. Plus, this time around, he has a cool cane to complete his look.

And it turns out, this cane features an homage to The Empire Strikes Back's Cloud City.

The book The Art of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was recently released, and it reveals plenty of new details about the film, from alternate character designs to scenes that didn't make the final cut. What's more, it also reveals specific details about what we saw onscreen -- some of which fans might have been missed. Such is the case with Lando's cane.

According to prop master Jamie Wilkinson, the cane's hilt was meant to echo Cloud City, the floating metropolis where we first meet Lando in Episode V, after Han and Leia travel to Bespin looking for help.

"Obviously we based the shape on Cloud City," Wilkinson confirmed. In fact, the close-up image featured in the book reveals a clear look at Lando's cane and the shape of its hilt. It's completely round, and clearly meant to resemble the floating city Lando once called home.

What's more, the prop master revealed he wasn't entirely sure if director J.J. Abrams would like the design. "It was one of those ideas that I didn't think J.J. would necessarily go for. But he loved it." As for the inscription around the handle? "The inscription says, 'Baron Lando Calrissian,'" Wilkinson revealed.

There may not have been time during Lando's scenes in The Rise of Skywalker to reveal why the character's cane had this particular design. But given that the character is a man of pride and wealth, it stands to reason that he would use this piece of his ensemble to honor Cloud City, the place where he once ruled as administrator. It's a callback to his prestigious life before he joined the Rebellion.

Directed and co-written by J.J. Abrams, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong' o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Keri Russell, Anthony Daniels, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams, and Carrie Fisher, with Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant.
