New footage from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker teases a potential turn to the Dark Side for series protagonist Rey.
Footage revealed at D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, showed Rey in a dark hood and wielding a red double-bladed lightsaber, reminiscent of the one Darth Maul used in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. As red is typically the color employed by Sith and other Dark Side users, this might indicate Rey will take a turn for the worse in the film, though that's unconfirmed at this time. There are reports the sizzle reel shown at the event will be released on Monday, so it's possible the footage might surface then.
Plot details about The Rise of Skywalker are scare at this time, though more information will surface as the the movie gets closer to its release date. However, the movie is said to be the final installment focusing on the Skywalker family, who have been integral to the series since the original film in 1977.
Directed and co-written by J.J. Abrams, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Keri Russell, Matt Smith, Anthony Daniels, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams and Carrie Fisher, with Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant. The film arrives on Dec. 20.
